11 November 2024

I could go on and on about the snow-peaked mountains and turquoise-blue waterways of the Bow River that trickle through Canmore, but words fall short when it comes to trying to encapsulate the beauty that is this small Western Canadian town. All I know is that I’ll accept any and every work assignment that takes me to this spectacular spot. There’s just something in the air. The omnipresence of the Rocky Mountains juxtaposed with the laid-back small-town feel of the place offers an incredible alternative to neighbouring tourist hotspots like Banff and Jasper. That goes for its hotels as well. The best hotels in Canmore offer incredible views, excellent food and drink, and the welcoming hospitality that small Canadian towns are known for. Here’s my inside scoop on where to stay if you’re planning a trip to this Alberta ski town.

1.

The Malcolm Hotel

Address:

321 Spring Creek Drive

Price:

C$ 105-2416.24/night

I was lucky enough to visit the Malcolm Hotel when it first opened in 2019, and I can confidently say it remains one of the best hotels in Canmore. This stunning space is where you’ll want to drop your bags if you’re looking for a luxury experience in a central location

The Malcolm Hotel feels like walking into a high-end mountain lodge thanks to its rustic-inspired decor. But the best part is the outdoor pool, which overlooks the Rocky Mountains and serves as a great place to enjoy a bit of sun. I also highly recommend enjoying a meal at the Stirling Lounge. The hotel’s casual eatery offers an elevated take on pub food, including a delicious veggie burger.

2.

Stoneridge Mountain Resort

Address:

30 Lincoln Pk

Price:

C$ 236-2455.35/night

The Stoneridge Mountain Resort is one of the best hotels in Canmore for travellers who want the feeling of a private chalet or cottage while still reaping the benefits of hotel amenities and hospitality. The rooms and suites feel like a cozy countryside cottage, but the on-site pool and restaurants help to maintain the feeling of a blissful getaway.

I love that this property has a fun board game and cards library to explore, as well as rooms with fully equipped kitchens. You can even request a room with a private barbecue.

It’s also worth noting that this property has on-site EV charging stations as well as heated and secure underground parking, which makes it one of the top-rated hotels in Canmore if you’re travelling by car.

3.

Solara Resort - Bellstar Hotels & Resorts

Address:

187 Kananaskis Way

Price:

C$ 170-703.93/night

If you’re looking for a cozy hotel that feels like a true home away from home, the Solara Resort - Bellstar Hotels & Resorts is one of the places I would recommend booking. I love that the rooms and suites look and feel like you’re staying at your friend’s parent’s fancy cottage somewhere in the countryside, but also offer comfortable amenities.

The intimate property is also right in the middle of town, making it easy to get around Canmore on foot. What’s more, every room offers incredible views of the Rocky Mountains and the quaint Canmore city streets below. I also love that this property has an indoor pool and hot tub, so you can enjoy a pool day even when it's cold outside.

4.

Blackstone Mountain Lodge By Clique

Address:

170 Kananaskis Way

Price:

C$ 142-1976.29/night

If you’re a winter weather fiend, you’ll love the Blackstone Mountain. This stunning lodge makes winter vacationing even better thanks to its year-round heated outdoor pool and hot tubs—I can’t think of anything better than swimming laps beneath the Rocky Mountains while it’s snowing.

The property boasts a barbecue area and outdoor courtyard, as well as self-service laundry facilities. Every suite also has in-room washing and drying. The condo-style suites all come equipped with their own balcony, which I love for enjoying an early morning coffee or late-night glass of wine in solitude.

5.

Falcon Crest Lodge By Clique

Address:

190 Kananaskis Way

Price:

C$ 91-2529.37/night

The Falcon Crest Lodge By Clique is hands down one of the best hotels in Canmore for outdoor-minded travellers. The luxury lodge offers sprawling suites for couples and families to unpack and unwind in comfort.

The Falcon Crest Lodge boasts recycled patio furniture, impressively powerful showerheads, and cozy lighting that allows the exterior views to be the main draw of each hotel room.

I love to work out whenever possible while staying in a hotel, so I also really like that this property has a gym with a sun-flooded fitness room where you can take in unobstructed views of the Rocky Mountains. It has a lot of cardio options, as well as yoga mats, to suit every fitness enthusiast's needs.

6.

Sunset Resorts Canmore And Spa

Address:

104 - 1151 Sidney St

Price:

C$ 134-541.91/night

Sunset Resorts Canmore And Spa is a great option if you're looking for a budget-friendly property that still offers great value (my favourite way to travel).

This isn’t to say you won’t be treated to great Canadian hospitality here—in fact, the hospitality at this hotel and spa is one of its strongest points. Travellers love this property for its friendly and attentive staff (late checkout is usually no problem) and well-maintained on-site amenities that are akin to a more expensive luxury hotel.

The hotel offers a spacious indoor pool with a slide, which is great for splashing around during the winter months, as well as fully-stocked kitchenettes in each room if you prefer to do your own cooking while travelling.

7.

Worldmark Canmore - Banff

Address:

91 Three Sisters Drive

Price:

C$ 87-1072.65/night

Think of the Worldmark Canmore-Banff as a colourful gingerbread house you can check into and call home for a while. This is one of the most charming hotels in Canmore, perfect for folks looking for a lodge that’s just as picturesque in the summer months as it is come winter.

The hotel is set among mature trees and offers the appeal of a wilderness retreat while still being walking distance from the best bars and restaurants in Canmore. I love that the rooms are equipped with patios and barbecues, so you can grill your meals from the comfort of your own space while taking in the magical views of Bow Valley.

The property also boasts a pretty outdoor pool and hot tub, with lounge chairs perfectly positioned for sunbathing.

8.

Basecamp Lodge Canmore

Address:

1002 Bow Valley Trail

Price:

C$ 82-434.37/night

I loved my stay at Basecamp Lodge Canmore. The property is one of the best hotels in Canmore for folks who like to get out and explore the main parts of town. It’s right next to some of the city’s finest spots, like Rocky Mountain Bagel Company and the Grizzly Paw Pub.

The timber-framed building looks like it was plucked straight out of a fairy tale, while the well-appointed rooms boast all the amenities you’d want from a cozy hotel, including in-room fireplaces, high-end bath products, and tasty welcome treats.

I also really like that this property boasts a dry sauna, which is amazing after a long day exploring outdoors in the winter. You can also borrow one of the on-site cruiser bikes at no extra cost to explore the city on two wheels.

9.

Chateau Canmore

Address:

1718 Bow Valley Trail

Price:

C$ 80-525.15/night

Chateau Canmore is a cozy and comfortable place to unwind after hitting the slopes or exploring the Alberta countryside. The cottage-inspired decor is absolutely adorable and is made even better with excellent hospitality.

The property boasts an indoor pool, as well as an indoor wood sauna and a well-appointed fitness room. Families travelling together should also note that the hotel has a kids-only space that’s packed with games, cards, and a TV.

It might not be for everyone, but Chateau Canmore also has an on-site stand-up tanning booth, useful if you want to get a bit of a base tan before enjoying the Canmore sun.

10.

Mtn House By Basecamp

Address:

1 Silvertip Trail

Price:

C$ 108-547.5/night

Mtn House By Basecamp is one of the most-loved spots in Canmore by visitors and locals alike. Many of them come for the property’s on-site restaurant, Rhythm & Howl. This is one of the top restaurants in the city and boasts a farm-to-table menu that champions locally sourced and sustainable ingredients in a cool and unpretentious dining space.

The hotel also boasts excellent guestrooms, if you’re looking for a high-end spot to relax. I love that the rooms range in size and specific needs: there are family rooms, which are designed to suit children as well as their parents, and even a bi-level king suite that provides spacious and sophisticated lodgings.

Take it from me, it’s well worth the splurge, with a huge floor-to-ceiling window that boasts incredible views of the Rocky Mountains.
