FAQs for booking flights from the United Kingdom to France

  • What are popular transfer locations on flights to France?

Stopover locations depend on the airline you fly with, as many will transfer at a hub airport. For instance, KLM from Heathrow (LHR) to Paris will normally stop over at Amsterdam Airport (AMS). On the same route, Lufthansa tends to change at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), whereas SWISS will normally use Zurich Airport (ZRH) for its transfer location.

  • Are direct flights available to France?

Passengers looking for direct flights to France will find numerous options available. If you want to fly direct from London, you can fly with easyJet from London Luton and London Gatwick (LGW). You can also fly non-stop from London Heathrow with British Airways. Flights on these routes will land at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. You can also fly direct from Birmingham Airport (BHX) with Air France and land at Charles de Gaulle. Regular direct flights are also available with Ryanair from Manchester Airport (MAN).

  • Is there internet on board flights from UK to France?

If you need to stay in touch with loved ones, you can look for an airline that provides you with access to the internet. For instance, British Airways and Air France offer internet to passengers, which comes at an extra cost. Ryanair on the other hand does not offer internet as part of its services.

  • Do I need a visa to travel to France?

UK passengers do not need a visa to enter France. However, you will need to have a valid UK passport before you travel. If you plan to stay in France for more than 90 days, you will also need to apply for a long-stay visa.

  • I want to visit the French Riviera. Where can I fly to?

If you plan to explore the south of France during your trip, you can fly cheaply from the UK to Nice or Marseilles. Flights from London Luton to Nice Cote d’Azur Airport (NCE) with easyJet take around 2h. You can also fly to Nice from Birmingham in around 6h with Brussels Airlines. To fly to Marseilles Provence Airport (MRS), passengers can fly direct from London Stansted (STN) with Ryanair in around 2h. Landing at either Nice or Marseilles will put you just a short drive from the French Riviera.

  • Which airports are hubs for airlines that fly to France?

There are several airlines that offer frequent and direct services to France from their hub airports. For instance, Ryanair operates from its hub at Stansted Airport (STN), whilst British Airways has a hub at Heathrow Airport (LHR). Flying from these airports means you are likely to find cheaper flights for your journey.

  • How many bags can you take on board flights to France?

On flights from Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), you will be able to take one item of cabin baggage with Air France or British Airways. However, if you want checked luggage, this will cost extra. If you fly with Ryanair on a flight from Stansted Airport (STN) to France, you will not get any luggage included in the basic ticket cost, just a small bag which must be able to fit under the seat.

  • Is public transport available at French airports?

Most airports in France have excellent public transport facilities. If you arrive at a smaller French airport, like Rennes or Brest, taxis are a convenient and affordable option. However, if you land at an airport in a major city like Paris, you may face long waits for taxis. Taking the Paris metro, therefore, will usually be faster and more affordable.

  • Are flights likely to be more expensive around Hellfest?

If you are flying to Nantes during Hellfest, which is a popular open air rock festival that takes place each year in June, you should be aware that the flight prices are likely to be more expensive. For cheaper tickets, you should try booking either side of the festival.

  • Are flights likely to be more expensive during Christmas?

As Christmas and New Years are widely celebrated in France, it’s likely that flight prices will be more expensive in the build-up to the celebrations. Unless you are specifically heading to France for the festivities, it’s recommended you book a trip before or afterwards, so you get cheaper fares.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from the United Kingdom to France?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from the United Kingdom to France.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from the United Kingdom to France?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight to France from the United Kingdom is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from the United Kingdom to France?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly to France with an airline and back to the United Kingdom with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from the United Kingdom to France?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying to France from the United Kingdom up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding a cheap flight out of the United Kingdom

  • If you are flying from the UK to Paris, be aware that Paris has three international airports: Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Paris Orly (ORY) and Paris Beauvais-Tille (BVA). Charles de Gaulle is the city’s largest airport and is a good option if you plan to stay in the city centre. Paris Orly is also central but is a smaller airport with fewer UK flight options. Paris Beauvais-Tille is situated just north of Paris.
  • If you want to visit the famous Dune du Pilat on the west coast of France, you should fly to Bordeaux Airport (BOD) which is about a 60 km (37 miles) drive away. Alternatively, you can fly to Biarritz Airport (BIQ), which is around 190 km (118 miles) away by car.
  • Passengers that are flying from London will have a choice of airports to leave from. London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is the biggest airport which offers the most amenities. London City Airport (LCY) is ideal for business travellers, as it’s close by to the business areas. Stansted Airport (STN) is convenient for those travelling from the north of the city, whilst Gatwick Airport (LGW) provides great connections for anyone to the south of London.
  • If you plan to visit several cities during your stay, consider flying direct to Paris and then travelling on from there. Passengers can find great train connections from Paris stations to other parts of France, like Bordeaux or Nantes. It is also possible to fly to southern France from Paris in just over 1h.
  • If you are travelling as a Business Class passenger, you can take advantage of the chauffeur services that certain airlines, such as British Airways, offer. For example, you can put your Business Points towards a chauffeur journey from your home to the airport. This is available for a range of airports, including Heathrow Airport (LHR), providing you live within 100 miles of the terminal.
  • Flying from London to France? If you’re staying in central London, Heathrow Airport (LHR) is a good option. However, if you are staying in the north of the city, Luton (LTN) is a more convenient choice.
  • Planning to visit Disneyland, Paris? Charles de Gaulle Airport is the closest airport to the Disney theme park and is located under 1h away by car.
  • If you are travelling with children and want to hire a car at the airport, make sure you book the correct child restraints. It is illegal for children under 10 to ride in cars without a proper car seat in France.

They lost my lauggage and I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT. NO ONE IS HELPING! PLEASE HELP FIND MY LOST LAUGGAGE

They again did not offer any functioning WiFi in the transatlantic crossing.

The first half from DC to Paris was very good and the staff were very helpful and humble BUT flight from Paris to Mumbai was sad. 1) it was packed. 2) no space on head compartment 3) crews were unresponsive to the calls 4) one crew member literally banged the bottle of water after giving me glass of water. A little water splashed on me and she was unapologetic 5) with so many hours of flight, little leg space should be taken care else don’t fill your airline till brim which affects your crew and they remove anger on us. 6) huge line for washrooms. 7) 2nd half journey was pathetic

At check-in at Guarulhos Airport, I was coerced to pay EUROS 100 for each of my two teenage kids travelling on economy premium on the same flight (total charge of EUROS 200) to AIR FRANCE on the rational that they were on a different class and therefore they would require additional care from the flight crew. My wife and I would be (and actually flew) only a few meters from our kids on business class in the same flight. Air France took EUROS 200 from me in exchange for absolutely nothing. My kids are seasoned travelers and independent, and in any event, they were not given any special or any other assistance or attention by Air France flight crew as result or in connection with the fee charged from me at any given time during the flight to Paris - so ABSOLUTELY NO SERVICE WAS PERFORMED AND THE FEE WAS SIMPLY ANOTHER WAY OF “MILKING “ EXTRA EUROS 200 FROM ME. Worse, Air France made us wait for everyone to deplane in Paris to let us deplane - after an Air France Paris representative ridiculously confirmed that our kids were our kids, with our kids at that time already by our side seating in business class. We almost lost our connection to Malta as a result. Such a scheme from Air France is outrageous – especially because it penalizes its customers flying in business class or in first class. I would have imagined that Air France would have wanted to attract clients to fly its premium classes – not to charge cheap EURO 100 fees and to keep them waiting to deplane with their families after 12 hours flights at their destination. You won’t see us any time soon Air France and best of luck with your strategy !

My only issue was my meal was inedible except for the sides.

Old cabine without flat bed in business for a 12 hour flight is not acceptable

Generally good. The crew is excellent. The food could be better.

They wanted to close counter although they did not provide the wheelchair requested which ended by going alone to transit security and lost long time and they did not want to wait .

Did not find the wheelchair that supposed to assist and went to a long queue for transit security chk which was very slow and boarding desk wanted to close counter although that they knew that I am minutes away because of their mistake of not providing the wheelchair.

Boarding was smooth and on time. The seat was comfortable and the entertainment worked. Staff were gracious.

Checking was efficient and quick. Adequate luggage space. Food for purchase only at high prices

Nothing. There was no flight. They cancelled the flight with no replacement about 9 hours before takeoff.

The flight was canceled at the last minute. Alternative flight was booked after 6 hours wait in Malaga airport.

Boarding with some sense and communication. It was a total free-for-all everyone coming all at once, no organisation of row numbers or priority.

Horrible, flight cancelled and had to come back the next day

Terrible. For clarity - this was the Level flight to Boston. Not Vueling. Would urge customers to avoid this airline. Gate agent was singularly unhelpful. He was argumentative, rude and went out of his way to ensure that every penny was collected for the baggage (which we realized given how early we were for flight we could have saved hundreds of dollars if we checked in on app). No onboard entertainment or WiFi. Half of the front section was empty because the seats did not work! Plane was falling apart.

No complimentary snacks, but I think that’s a standard in the USA. There were loud drunk Germans sitting in front of us.

Good standard flight the plan was clean could not complain the only thing is checking in the pushchair was very slow only 3 people at the counter.

The flight was delayed and nobody was able to inform me about the new scheduled time and gate

The flight attendants were friendly and professional. I asked to change my seat and the flight attendant was accommodating. We experienced a short delay due to the late arrival of the plane. However, the onboarding and disembarking process was efficient.

Kayak sent several notifications that the flight was late. This contradicted the information on the airport boards. This was extremely confusing and we very nearly missed the flight purely because we double checked with the info desk when the flight stays said’closed’. Kayak notifications are therefore unreliable and pointlesa

Usual issues with flight delay. Perennial problem of travel by plane.

i didnt go this was a hacker booked this flight on my debit card !

Delayed almost 2 hours sitting on plane. No updates at all from flight deck and virtually no updates from cabin crew

Long delay resulted in my being unable to catch a train home and resulted in an additional £76 cost for an Uber

Be sure to check bags for 23 kg,.(50 lbs) Coming from US I chose the wrong size luggage weight when I checked in on my phone, and had to pay more when I dropped it off

All around poor experience. Barely got on flight because it was ostensibly overbooked. Forced into checking a carryon bag with empty overhead compartments. Nickeled and dimed. Charged for coffee. Despicable.

The on board air steward really made the journey. He was very entertaining

I was disappointed there was a 40 minute delay to flight

They cancelled my flight and we had to fend for ourselves to reschedule another flight. There was no staff to help all the canceled guest. Poor communication and staff. I attempted to reschedule via Kayak and I asked their staff that it looked as it was available. The guy behind the counter just told us to go online..

Keep track of your departure times and communicate in Airport. I could have spend an hour more in my lounge

Never have real problems...very ho prices for good the rest is all great

Flight delayed by almost two hours. On boarding we were hold in the transfer bus, with no air conditioning and almost 40 degree C outside, in front of the airplane for a long time.

It is what you pay for. Always delayed. Very small planes. Hard to fly with kids.

The worst experience ever, really. First we had booked a flight at noon with about 6 months in advance. A month before the flight they cancelled it and rescheduled us on a flight a 21:00 hs which would ruin our day completely. Nevertheless, we had no option but to accept as any other option was economically unviable with so short notice. We arrived on time as requested to the airpor. Actually arrived 3 hours earlier. We waited there and it started to be delayed a few minutes, then an hour and a half and so son. Flight ended up boarding at 23:15. Once the doors were closed, the captain announced 1:30 more hours delay to start our trip. Also, as per “international rules” they said they couldn’t offer water or anything alike. After about 30 minutes, and against those rules, they started SELLING WATER BOTTLES FOR 3€ each. 500ml bottles. Flight departed at about 01:44 am and after a go around in Bergamo because he was at about 700 feet AGL and still not stable, the pilot performed a go around, landing at the same runway minutes later. Crew, both pilots and flight attendants, were professional and I told them I feel sorry for them having to deal with this everyday as it’s not their fault, but they’re the visible side of the airline to the passengers. Bags arrived promptly but we took our Uber at 03:55 am. Ryanair, never again! (It could be their slogan, but it’s probably too good for them).

Ryanair is always shite. Slowest boarding possible in the most uncomfortable way. It’s like they are are tad sadistic.

Flight was delayed which happens but walking 15 mins to one gate to be then told it’s now changed to one 15 mins back then other way was frustrating

East check in and security. They are always delayed though. ALWAYS!

Amazed at huge number of people who hadn’t booked cabin bags with big troller cases and rucksacks, not being stopped, what’s the point in following rules or paying more if you don't have to bother?

Worse situation ever. Arriving at 4 am with 7 Hours of delay

My flight out of Miami was delayed by 2 hours which meant I had to quickly make other arrangements for pick-up in Glasgow. A $9 voucher for food was issued. That’s not much of a gesture in my opinion.

The flight was good, my only complaint is that we were delayed in leaving by a significant amount of time.

Flight on time. Food was poor - low quality and hard to eat due to poor layout

Experience was probably the best I’ve had on BA for a long time. Only thing is A380 is old now and it needs upgrading. The en re attainment screens are very small and the touchscreen barely works.

Unreliable for flight to and from Paris - taken 6 flights this year and delayed on the way back every single time - very frustrating. And to top it all up - baggage delays are horrendous

Disaster out of City Airport with our flight cancelled and very little help.

The onboard service makes it extremely difficult and slow to go to the toilet

Flight OK but they only loaded half of the checked bags on. This they only told us on arrival

Flight cancelled! Rebooked by circuitous routing although there were seats available on other nonstop flights.

My experience was very disappointing. Firstly I was unable to check in using the kiosks. Secondly even though I purchased a flight with one checked bag, I was told at the counter that a checked bag was not included in my flight booking. And I had to pay for my bag. At the check in counter, the airline representative was very arrogant and demeaning. She insisted on charging me £140 for the luggage. And said it was an automatic charge calculated by the scale. This didn’t make sense to me. As it was 0.5 kg overweight. Which only required me to remove 2 bottles of water. Having an extensive flight schedule that involved multiple flights included NY and Brussels, this leg of my flight was the most stressful and unpleasant.
